It has often
been argued that corporations such as ours, which help students
to get admission, financial aid and visas to other countries, contribute
to the serious brain drain situation in India. It is argued that
the top talent is lost to other more developed countries such as
the United States of America.
My justification
for carrying on a business which offends my critics is not as simple
as that of a slaughter house which needs to justify its gruesome
business as one where the abattoir is working solely to feed his
family. I, in fact contend that money is the last reason on my priority
list for venturing into a business which according to some help
towards a so called "Brain drain." I believe that since I am educated
I can be easily gainfully employed without resorting to a socially
harmful profession.
Bear with me
for a moment, for I feel that this "brain drain" actually contributes
to India’s success. Out of every 100 people who venture abroad,
a greater percentage become more qualified and more successful than
out of a 100 students who stayed back and have studied in India.
Don't misunderstand me. I am blaming not the student but the system.
There are no bad students but only bad teaching standards.
Furthermore,
these students who eventually become responsible citizens in other
create pro-India lobbies and ensure that we receive strong International
representation. They act as ambassadors for our country and ensure
that we are acknowledged culturally and financially.
On a financial
note, you will also find that the US inculcates within its students
a sense of philanthropy. These success stories donate large amounts
of money to India and towards development of a greater India. On
the other hand in India, we are taught to evade taxes
I am an Indian
and at times I am very proud of my motherland. There are however,
times when I am ashamed to see some of the things that I see here.
More so because I haven't been able to make a large enough difference
as yet.
Therefore, the
"Brain Drain" is a concept that I can not prescribe to at this point
in time. I sincerely do hope that one day I can embrace it. But
for that, my country has to make the difference.
